Built on sand - or – a cloud castle builder

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
(1.Corinthians 3,11)

Built on sand - or – a cloud castle builder

Have you tried to build a sand castle before? We always used to make a nice competition of it, when we at the seaside. It had to be the most beautiful and biggest sand castle. We used materials, implements and tried to fix the sand castle with water and decorate the castle wet drops of sand. We made moats, doors and paths on different levels.

Unfortunately it was very short-lived. As soon as the sand was dry, the next day at the latest, only an uneven pile of sand was left over from the wonderful sand castle.

I would like to use this sand castle comparison for the bible passage mentioned above. We humans are masters at building castles in the sky. We think up the greatest things for our own lives. We try our hardest and do everything to achieve the goals. Sometimes we really do manage quite impressive results. However after a short amount of time, there is nothing more to see for it.

If you build your life on sand and use the wrong building materials – nothing permanent can be produced from water and sand – then you do not need to be surprised if everything falls down after a little while. If the foundations are lost or are left behind, you belief will also become a castle in the sky. Jesus would like to be your builder. He would like to be the foundation stone and builder at the same time. Then your life will not become a castle in the sky, a house of cards which simply falls down, or a sand castle which is ruined by the next wind or rainfall.

Do not build your life on or with sand.
