Impulse thought on feelings

We do not really like to talk about feelings. Especially boys hide their true feelings and prefer to play the strong one. The below thoughts can be an introduction into talking about the subject.

Everyone in the group might be able to write down his own comparisons on a piece of paper or describe certain feeling situations using the following examples. These thoughts are suitable for a boy’s group, a teenager’s circle or a staff meeting.

How do you feel: In school, in your job, in your club or in youth work?

I sometimes feel…

  • …like a ball which is kicked.

  • ...like a wilting flower which needs water to survive.

  • ...like a ship which seems to be sinking.

  • ...like a child before Christmas.

  • ...like a person who waits in a queue to buy something and doesn’t know if the item will still be there when it is their turn.

  • ...like an island in the wide ocean.

  • ...like a child in a busy street looking for a pedestrian crossing.

  • ...like an ill person who is helped.

  • ...like a cartridge which doesn’t’ work probably. Sometimes too little or no ink at all and sometimes with too much ink.

  • ...like a car waiting to be filled at the filling station.

  • ...like a letter waiting to be posted.

  • ...like a folding stool which sticks.

  • ...like a clown, waiting to do his performance.

  • ...like an animal in a large, hungry herd who has to waits its turn to get the food it needs to survive.

  • ...like an orange which is pressed daily but nothing comes out.

  • ...like a disabled who wants to be accepted like he is.

  • ...like left alone.

  • ...like someone who does not know how to impress youths with Jesus.

  • ...like a horse working day and night and hardly getting any rest.

  • ...like a hiker who never finds a resting place, where you can rest and reflect.

  • ...like a squid whose arms are pulled in different directions.

  • ...like a school leaver who wants a job but realises after a little time that you need to train to get a job.

  • ...like an information service.

  • ...like a chef without a recipe.

  • ...like a lake without water.

  • ...like a speaker without any listeners.

  • ...like a striker without any goal scoring success.

  • ...like a lemon which is being squeezed.

  • ...like an empty beer glass which is waiting to be filled and drank from.

  • ...like a part of a machine which does not really know what its function is.

  • ...like a mouse under the watchful eye of an eagle who does not know what will happen in the next moment.

  • ...like a barrel which wants to be filled so that it can be emptied again.

  • ...like a brick which does not fit into the wall but still has to support the house.

  • ...like a splint which everyone picks at.

  • ...like a drop of water in the desert.

  • ...like a horse waiting for his rider.

  • ...like a young tree in the ancient forest which must grow strong and thick roots to weather the storm.

  • ...like a thread in a woven patterned carpet.

  • ...like one of four table legs.

  • ...like a little hill in a mountain range.

  • ...like a tree on a large field which needs large roots to face the wind.

  • ...like a tree in the woods.

  • ...like a cog in a machine.

  • ...like a grain of sand among thousands.

  • ...like a worker in a production line waiting for work so that he can pass it on to the others.

  • ...like a plane which is sometimes here and sometimes there.

  • ...like a sponge which has been soaked in a lake and must be squeezed out again.

  • ...like a predator on his second hunt.

  • ...like a tree without leaves.

  • ...like a guitar without strings.

  • ...like a blackboard waiting to be written on.

  • ...like a camel in the desert which has reached an oasis of relaxation and of life so that he can carry on taking the load.

  • ...sometimes like a bow string on a bow and arrow, sometimes tense, sometimes loose.

  • ... like a young tree in the ancient forest which must grow strong and thick roots to weather the storm.

  • ... like a hiker who never finds a resting place, where you can rest and reflect.

  • ...like a guitar string which is waiting to be tuned.

  • ...like a dry sponge which is thrown into water to be wrung out again.

Despite all of this, there is someone who sticks with us and keeps sending us new power.
