Wooden inlay veneer as coasters

Find yourself some different coloured veneer woods at a joiners (light, brown, dark, black). For transferring the respective shapes, you should copy a pattern or design. With the help of carbon paper, the design is transferred onto the chosen veneer. The shape is now to be cut out of the veneer with a sharp tool. Please try to save on waste, as veneer is not exactly cheap. Once all mosaic pieces are cut out, the inlay work can start being put together. You can use a layered piece of plywood to work on. With thinly spread wood glue inlay the pieces carefully. If the veneer pieces have been carefully and exactly produced, the picture should fit perfectly together. Any joints which are visible can be filled with joint filler. The under side of the coaster should now be covered with a piece of felt. Suitable motives are stars, landscapes, flowers or buildings.
