The copy glass

Material:

  • 1 piece of glass 20 x 30 cm
  • Coloured sticky tape
  • 2 pieces of thick wire

If an illuminated sheet of glass is placed in front of or on a dark background it reflects a picture like a mirror. If you look into a dark shop window at night you will not only see what is behind the glass but also the mirror image of the things in front of the sheet of glass.

The copy glass works in the same way.

First of all the piece of glass should be framed with sticky tape so that you cannot cut yourself on it. A stand is produced from the wire so that the glass can stand up as steadily as possible. Bend the wire with a pair of pliers as shown in the picture below. You can also fix the glass sheet between two balls made of modelling clay. Now place a picture and a sheet of white paper next to each other. Illuminate the picture well. The white sheet must be in the shade. Place the piece of glass vertically between the two sheets. Look through the glass from the picture side and you will see the mirror image of the picture on the white sheet of paper. If is now easy to copy the picture with a pencil on the white sheet.
