The Secret Castle Dungeon

Group Size:

This game can be played by small and big groups. (We played it with 65 children) For each station you need sufficient leaders to play the roles of the castle residents. We divided the children into groups of six. (Mixed ages) Each group gets instructions and a start coin.

Age:

Ages 8 to 16 worked well in our camp.

Beginning and the carrying out the game:

The groups begin the game at the same time. They search for the people of the castle. The groups should not be too big (so that the game does not take too long). The important thing that the castle residents stick to the text and then the game works well. If there is nothing going on at your station, you can keep the children busy (acting is required).

Preparation: material and costumes

Costumes make the game more authentic (it's amazing what you can find on the camp as costumes). The materials you use in the game should not be obtainable anywhere else. (Coal, grindstones, children firework, coins etc.) otherwise the kids will look for them elsewhere. Do not use bottles tops as coins; you can find them everywhere on the ground.

Solutions (don't give them away):

At the beginning, the children get a thaler. So they can buy one dragon tooth from the souvenir shop.

With this tooth, they have to go to the guard of the bridge. They have to act like dragon hunters. Now they are allowed to cross the bridge.

In the castle they have to go to the maid. The maid sends them to the hair dresser Figario who gives them a side parting. Afterwards they have to go back to the maid who gives them one piece of the ticket.

After the meeting with the maid, the groups go to the fairy. She gives them a magic ball. With this magic ball, the groups go to the witch. She needs it to finish her potion.

After she has finished her potion she gives them matches.

The smith needs matches, coal and a new, strong helper.

But first they have to go to the executioner who needs a new job. They have to tell them that he should go to the smith.

For this information the executioner gives them a thaler. With the thaler they can buy coal from the souvenir shop. They have to bring the coal to the smith. He will thank them and give them a grindstone.

The knight needs a grindstone because his sword is blunt. He tells the kids that they have to sing YMCA at the station of the minstrel.

The minstrel tells them that the court jester likes jokes. He will give them the second piece of the ticket for the party this evening.

Afterwards they have to go to the guard of the castle who would like to go to the party that evening. To thank them, he lets the group visit the tower where the princess is.

Piece of paper for the groups ....
