Baking and Cooking

Yeast- Dough - Men

Bring enough ready to use yeast dough so that everybody has a sufficiently sized piece. Every child should work on a sheet of baking paper. Using different sized balls of dough, a head, body, arms and legs are formed and then stuck to one another. Eyes and buttons should be made out of raisins, nuts or almonds. The finished dough man should be coated with a little condensed milk and then baked in the oven at 180 degrees (fan assisted), and depending on the size for approx. 15- 20minutes.

Puff Pastry apple turnovers

You can buy cheap, ready made rolls of puff pastry in most discount stores. Cut 8 squares out of each roll. 1 Small apple is enough to fill 2-3 smaller sized apple pockets. Peel the apples, chop small, mix a little lemon juice and raisins (to taste) in with the apples. Add some vanilla sugar. Spoon some of the mixture onto the bottom half of the pastry square and fold the other half over it. Press the outer edges of the pastry together using a fork. If there is any spare pastry left over, you can make nice decorations for the apple turnovers. Depending on the oven, bake at 180 degrees, approx. 20 minutes, and then dust with icing sugar. Bon Appetite!

Cocktail Creations

Various fruit drinks (dark and light, thick and thin), Mineral water, maybe some coconut milk, lemons (to juice), lemon slices and bananas to put on skewers as decoration. Tall glasses for mixing and several smaller glasses for serving. 1 plate with water and a plate with sugar give you the option of decorating the glasses with a decorative sugar rim. Spoons for stirring and don’t forget straws. Enjoy!

‘Amerikaner’ Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 100 g Butter or Margarine
  • 100 g Margarine
  • 1 Packet Vanilla sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • a little Salt
  • 1 Packet Vanilla Pudding
  • 3 Tablespoons Milk
  • 300 g Wheat flour
  • 1 Packet Baking Powder

Method:

Stir the butter/margarine until it is fluffy then little by little add the sugar, vanilla sugar, eggs, pinch of salt and pudding powder mixed with the milk. Thereafter slowly stir in the flour and baking powder.

The mixture should be firm – if not then stir in some more flour otherwise the biscuits will not keep their shape.

Using 2 tablespoons, place not too big piles of the mixture onto a greased baking tray and bake until golden brown.

Baking time:

15 Minutes at 200 degrees. After 10 minutes of baking, baste the top of the biscuits with milk. After they have been baked, brush the under side of the hot Amerikaner with light or dark icing sugar
